Day 1 - U.S.A./Cairo
Convenient evening flight takes you to Egypt.
Day 2 - Cairo - Egypt
Welcome to Egypt, the "cradle of ancient civilization"! On arrival at Cairo International Airport, we are greeted by our G.E.T. repre-sentative and assisted through customs formalities. We will drive to our hotel on the banks of the Nile. (D)
Day 3 - Cairo
Morning visit to the Pyramids & Sphinx of Giza. After lunch continue to ancient Memphis, the first capital of united Upper and Lower Egypt and Sakkara site of the Step Pyramid of Zoser.(B,L)
Day 4 - Cairo
This morning visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities viewing ancient treasures of King Tutankahmun's tomb and other wonders. After lunch drive to Old Cairo where early Judaism and Christianity flourished. Stroll the Great Citadel, visit the Mohammed Ali Mosque also known as the "Alabaster Mosque". The day ends with a visit to the Khan El Khalili Bazaar for shopping opportunities. Late evening transfer to the airport for your overnight flight to South Africa. (B,L)
Day 5 - Johannesburg
Welcome to South Africa and the city of Johannesburg. Continue to "Sun City". The Sun City complex is set dramatically amongst the Pilanesburg Mountains. This afternoon is at your leisure perhaps, a round of golf at the world famous Gary Player Club. The Palace of the Lost City, is set amidst an amazing jungle, where orchids cling to treetops and intriguing paths wander beside tumbling streams. The remainder of the evening is at your leisure.
Day 6 - Pilanesberg Game Reserve
Enjoy a day at leisure exploring the beautiful surroundings. Late afternoon departure for a game drive in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. The evening is available for leisure, perhaps a dinner in one of the hotel's restaurants or enjoy one of the extravaganza shows. (B)
Day 7- Johannesbburg - Thornybush Private Game Reserve
We depart after breakfast to Johannesburg International Airport in time for our connecting flight to the elegant and exclusive Thornybush Private Game Reserve. Our lodge is nestled in the heart of "big five" country, adjacent to the Greater Kruger National Park, with a huge diversity of mammal and bird species. High tea followed by an evening game drive in the reserve. (B,D)
Day 8 - Thornybush Private Game Reserve
Awake to the sounds of nature and early morning coffee or tea. Depart afterwards on your morning game drive. Your experienced game ranger will help you spot elephants and many other animals. Return to the lodge for brunch, followed by time for a short "siesta". Depart late afternoon on your evening game activity with your game ranger in search of nocturnal wild life. (B,L,D)
Day 9 - Thornybush Private Game Reserve - Cape Town
Enjoy an early morning game drive, before brunch at the lodge. Time to freshen up before we transfer to Hoedspruit Airport for the departing flight to Johannesburg and onto Cape Town. Transfer to the heart of Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and check-in at your hotel. This evening we will have an opportunity to explore the city on our own perhaps sample the superb cuisine in one of the many restaurants in the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. (B)
Day 10 - Cape Cape Peninsula
Depart after breakfast along one of South Africa's most scenic routes to Cape Point. The route will take you past Hout Bay, Chapman's Peak Drive. Arrive at the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. After lunch continue through the historic naval base of Simon's Town, the colorful fishing harbor of Kalk Bay and the picturesque suburb of St. James to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. The landscape of this magnificent garden devoted entirely to indigenous flora, includes flatlands, natural springs, valleys and gorges. South Africa is endowed with a wealth of 20,000 species of indigenous flowers, all of which are represented here. A moderate climate combined with a high winter rainfall, gave rise to a unique flora called fynbos of macchia. The Cape Floral Kingdom is the smallest but the most diverse of the seven Floral Kingdoms of plant geography. Return to the hotel late afternoon.(B,L)
Day 11 - Paarl - Franschhoek - Stellenbosch
After breakfast depart to the beautiful winelands valleys of Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Our first stop is the Taal Monument. This monument, imposing on its site on the slopes of Paarl Mountain, symbolizes the many influences which have contributed to the Afrikaans Language. The views are panoramic and stretch all the way to Table Mountain. Continue to the quaint village of Franschhoek. Pay a short visit to the Huguenot Memorial before a stop for lunch. Wine tasting and a cellar tour included. We continue our journey to the University town of Stellenbosch, with its oak tree lined streets. Enjoy a walk through this delightful city into Dorp Street, the oldest restored street of houses in South Africa-all national monuments. We return during the late afternoon to Cape Town.(B,L)
Day 12 - Cape Town Cairo
The day is at your leisure before a transfer to the airport for a return flight to Cairo.
Day 13 - Departure
Arrive in Cairo and connect with a flight to New York.
